Treating Hemorrhoids In Children

child suffering from hemorrhoidsAlthough hemorrhoids are most common in adults, children can form them as well. If your child is seeing blood when wiping, or experiencing any pain or itching around the anus, he or she may be experiencing hemorrhoids.

Here are four simple steps you can take to help address your child’s hemorrhoids:

  • Give your child warm baths, making sure the affected area is soaked, washed and dried off well.
  • Supply unscented towelettes or wet tissue for your child to wipe with after a bowel movement.
  • Apply cold compresses to the area to help relieve any pain and soreness.
  • Increase fiber and hydration in your child’s diet. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains and plenty of water will help to soften the stool.

If you think your child may be experiencing hemorrhoids, contact your physician to discuss best practices and treatment. Always follow your physician’s instructions before investing in over-the-counter creams and medications.
