Hemorrhoids: Don’t Sit Out of Your World Series

GeorgeBrettandHemorrhoidsIf you suffer from hemorrhoids, you’re not alone. Even the stars have had their battles with hemorrhoids! George Brett, former third baseman for the Kansas City Royals, made headline news back in 1980 when he underwent surgery for hemorrhoid removal. The  MVP removed himself during the sixth inning  of game two of the World Series in Philadelphia because of discomfort. He elected to have minor hemorrhoid surgery before returning for the rest of the series.

The procedure seemed to work wonders because in game three Brett hit a homerun in the 10th inning to edge the Royals to a 4-3 victory. His most famous quote about his World Series surgery was, “My problems are all behind me!” A few months later, Brett missed two weeks of spring training to have further surgery. In keeping with his sense of humor, Brett agreed to advertise for Preparation H after his recovery!

In all the discomfort of hemorrhoids, perhaps what we can take away from George Brett’s experience is to get help when you need it, while always keeping your sense of humor. Sometimes hemorrhoid pain cannot be ignored, and Brett was willing to miss some of the World Series to get hemorrhoid relief. Know your body and keep in good communication with your doctor so that you can schedule a procedure or treatment when necessary. Whether you have developed hemorrhoids during pregnancy or just by way of getting older, keep a smile on your face.  Everything is more bearable when you can laugh about it!  If you suffer from hemorrhoids, get relief by contacting a doctor or finding a treatment center near you.
