Each year more than one million people in the United States get cancer, and the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women is colorectal cancer. When detected early, this type of cancer is easily treated, but it is still the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men and women. In an effort to raise awareness about colon cancer and to help researchers achieve their goal of finding a cure for cancer, StopColonCancerNow.com is creating a site where cancer patients and survivors can share their stories with others. For every story submitted to their Testimonials page, StopColonCancerNow.com will make a donation to the V Foundation.
ESPN and former NC State basketball coach, Jimmy Valvano who was diagnosed with bone cancer in 1992, formed the V Foundation in 1993. The V Foundation has awarded more than $100 million to more than 100 facilities nationwide and awards 100 percent of direct donations and net event proceeds to cancer research. The goal for this foundation, and millions of others, is to one day find a cure for this deadly disease, and Jimmy V’s powerful motto, “Don’t give up … don’t ever give up,” continues to drive them towards this goal.
Stop Colon Cancer Now’s “In Honor Of” page gives people the opportunity to go online and share their personal story, or a story about someone they know, who has had colon cancer, is currently struggling with colon cancer or who has had a screening for colon cancer. This page will not only be a great way to raise awareness and offer encouragement to those who may be going through a similar situation, but it will also help bring the V Foundation closer to their goal.
